Connecting co-op leadership with public policymakers through “grasstops” advocacy is an important part of the legislative process. To help advance the legislative agenda of co-ops, leaders from nearly all of Ohio’s 24 electric cooperatives gathered at the Statehouse on May 25 to talk with legislators and policymakers about important issues.

Representing co-ops across the state, over 30 co-op Directors, CEOs, and key staff members started the day talking with Lt. Governor Jon Husted about economic development and workforce readiness. Smaller groups met individually with key Representatives and Senators promoting the need for rural development. Meetings concluded by discussing with Attorney General Dave Yost the unscrupulous sales practices of companies targeting electric cooperative members. The day wrapped up with a reception attended by legislators from across Ohio connecting with their local co-op leaders.
