Incumbent Casualties in Summer Primary

While most incumbents in the House were successful in beating their primary challengers, two Republicans and a Democrat lost their bids to return to the Statehouse on election night. Rep. Mark Fraizer (R-Newark) lost his rematch to businessman Thad Claggett, whom he bested by 307 votes in 2020. Also coming up short was Rep. Shawn Stevens (R-Sunbury), who was appointed in March 2022 over Beth Lear to fill the vacancy left by former Rep. Rick Carfagna. However, voters chose Lear, who overpowered the incumbent 58-42%. Lear will face Democrat Louise Valentine in November in a district favoring Republicans by more than 60%.
