The National Rural Economic Developers Association (NREDA) held its Biennial Regional Event on June 16–17, 2026, in Marysville, Ohio, bringing together more than 40 rural development professionals from across the country. The event, Making Regional Impact through Rural Routes: Rural Strategies for Destination Development, highlighted the power of local collaboration and showcased successful rural initiatives in Union and Logan counties.

Over two days, attendees explored how rural communities can drive meaningful, lasting change through strategic investment, strong partnerships, and innovative thinking. The agenda featured sessions on economic growth, healthcare access, entrepreneurship, downtown revitalization, placemaking, workforce development, and community leadership—core pillars of thriving rural economies.

A major highlight of the event was the pair of guided tours offering firsthand insight into rural development in action. Participants visited Honda Marysville, one of the region’s most significant employers, to learn how large-scale manufacturing shapes local economies and workforce pipelines. They also toured revitalized Downtown Bellefontaine, where small businesses, historic preservation, and community‑driven placemaking have transformed the area into a vibrant rural destination.

NREDA’s regional events are designed to help rural economic development professionals learn from successful projects, exchange ideas, and build relationships that strengthen communities nationwide. As an organization, NREDA supports leaders committed to advancing economic prosperity in rural America—ensuring that even the smallest communities have the tools and knowledge to grow.

Cooperative representatives in attendance included Wendy Robichaud and Brad Ebersole (Consolidated), Beau Michaels (URE), Andy Denny (Butler), Bruce Warneke (Hancock‑Wood), Jody Williams (South Central), Katie Latimore (Mid‑Ohio), Peter Niagu (Paulding Putnam), Jimmy Flint (FESCO), and Kelly Barr (OEC).
